The Bible was written by different human authors over many generations. These writers lived in different times and circumstances, yet Christians believe that God inspired Scripture through the Holy Spirit.
The Bible was not simply invented by one person. Its books include writings by prophets, kings, apostles, and others whom God used to communicate His message.
What Does the Bible Say?
2 Peter 1:20–21 (KJV)
“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
Peter explains that biblical prophecy did not originate merely from human will; the writers spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Example
Moses wrote books of the Law, David wrote many of the Psalms, and Paul wrote letters to early Christian churches. Their writings differ in style and purpose, but each must be read carefully to understand its message.
Remember
Human authors wrote the books of the Bible, and Christians believe Scripture was inspired by God. Understanding who wrote a passage and whom they addressed helps us interpret it correctly.
