The Bible is a collection of sacred writings that Christians believe are inspired by God. It reveals God’s purposes, teaches us about humanity, and explains His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.

The Bible contains different kinds of writing, including history, law, poetry, prophecy, and letters. Although its books were written by different human authors, Christians believe God inspired Scripture.

What Does the Bible Say?

2 Timothy 3:16–17 (KJV)

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

These verses teach us that Scripture is useful for teaching, correcting mistakes, providing instruction, and helping us grow in righteousness.

Example

Imagine someone tells you, “The Bible says this,” but when you examine the passage, you discover that the person has misunderstood it.

Should you accept the person’s explanation without examining the Scriptures? No. We should learn to read the Bible carefully and understand what it actually teaches.

Remember

The Bible is not meant merely to be read; it must also be understood in its proper context.
