Some people sacrifice animals or birds when they buy a new car, build or move into a new house, or seek protection from accidents, evil spirits, misfortune, or other dangers. Others believe that such sacrifices bring blessings, peace, or safety to their families.
Discussion Questions
Is it right for Christians to sacrifice animals or birds to seek God’s protection or blessings? What does the Bible teach about animal sacrifices in the Old Testament and the finished work of Jesus Christ? Does a Christian need to offer an animal sacrifice before using a new car, entering a new house, or beginning a new project? How should Christians respond when family members or cultural traditions require these practices? What should Christians trust in for protection and peace: animal sacrifices, traditional rituals, or the finished work of Jesus Christ?
Key Scriptures to Consider (KJV)
Hebrews 10:12: “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;” Hebrews 10:14: “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” Colossians 2:14: “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” Psalm 121:7: “The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.”
Let us discuss respectfully, allowing Scripture to guide our understanding rather than fear, superstition, or pressure from cultural traditions.
