Annet Birungi PetchKeymasterDiscussion:
Some Christians believe that eating pork is forbidden because God commanded the Israelites not to eat certain animals in the Old Testament. Others believe that Christians are free to eat all foods under the New Covenant through Jesus Christ.
Discussion Questions
Does the Bible forbid Christians from eating pork today? Why did God prohibit the Israelites from eating certain animals under the Old Testament Law? What did Jesus teach about food and defilement? How should we understand Peter’s vision in Acts 10 concerning clean and unclean animals? How should Christians respond when believers disagree about eating certain foods?
Key Scriptures to Consider (KJV)
Leviticus 11:7–8 — God’s instructions to Israel concerning swine.
Mark 7:18–19 — Jesus teaches about what enters a person from outside and what defiles them.
Acts 10:13–15 — Peter receives a vision concerning clean and unclean animals.
Romans 14:14 — “I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.”
Colossians 2:16 — “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”
Let us study these passages in their proper context and understand the difference between the Law given to Israel and the freedom believers have in Christ. Let us discuss respectfully, allowing Scripture to guide our understanding rather than judging one another over food.
