Annet Birungi PetchKeymasterDiscussion:
In many communities, people believe that misfortunes, sickness, business failures, family conflicts, or repeated disappointments are caused by curses or witchcraft. Some Christians live in fear that someone may use spiritual powers against them, while others believe that the finished work of Jesus Christ changes how believers should understand these fears. The Bible acknowledges spiritual opposition, but it also teaches believers to stand firm in faith and not live in bondage to fear.
Discussion Questions
Should Christians live in fear that someone can place a curse on them? What does the Bible teach about Christ redeeming believers from the curse of the law? Does every sickness, financial struggle, or difficult season mean that someone is practising witchcraft against us? How should Christians respond when someone claims that they need special payments, rituals, or sacrifices to break a curse? How can believers encourage people who are afraid of witchcraft to grow in faith, understanding, and confidence in Christ?
Key Scriptures to Consider (KJV)
Galatians 3:13: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”
Romans 8:1: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Colossians 2:15 — Christ triumphed over principalities and powers through the cross.
1 John 4:4: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Let us study these Scriptures in context and distinguish biblical teaching from fear-based traditions. We should not automatically attribute every hardship to witchcraft, nor should we exploit frightened people by promising freedom in exchange for money or rituals. Our discussion should point people to the sufficiency of Christ, sound biblical understanding, prayer, and practical wisdom.
