      Discussion:

Some people believe that seeing a particular person, especially a woman, first thing in the morning brings bad luck. Others believe that seeing a dead rat, a snake, or another animal on the road is a bad omen that predicts misfortune.

These beliefs exist in different cultures and communities. Some Christians may feel afraid or change their plans because of such encounters. But should believers interpret ordinary events as signs of coming danger or bad luck?

      Discussion Questions

Does the Bible teach that seeing a woman first in the morning brings bad luck? Does encountering a dead rat, a snake, or another animal on the road predict misfortune? Where do these beliefs come from, and how can cultural superstitions influence a Christian’s faith? What does the Bible teach about fear, omens, and trusting in God’s care? How should Christians respond when family members or community members insist that certain encounters bring bad luck?

      Key Scriptures to Consider (KJV)

2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Romans 8:38–39 — Nothing can separate believers from the love of God in Christ.

Colossians 2:8: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Let us examine these beliefs in the light of Scripture. We should not treat people or ordinary encounters as sources of bad luck without biblical grounds. As Christians, we are called to walk in faith, wisdom, and the truth of God’s Word rather than live in fear of superstitions.
