      Discussion

Some Christians receive water from pastors and are told to drink it, wash with it, or keep it at home for healing, protection, or deliverance. Some believe that the water carries a special spiritual power because a pastor prayed over it.

But what does the Bible teach about healing, prayer, and objects used in religious practices?

      Scripture:

      John 4:13–14 (KJV)

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

      Acts 19:11–12 (KJV)

“And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.”

Acts records extraordinary miracles associated with Paul’s ministry, but we should be careful not to assume that every modern practice involving water or other objects has the same biblical significance. Our confidence should remain in God, not in an object or a person’s claims.

      Questions for Discussion

Does the Bible instruct Christians to drink or use water supplied by pastors for healing or protection? How can we distinguish between trusting God for healing and believing that water becomes spiritually powerful because someone prayed over it? Should Christians accept such practices without examining the claims through Scripture and exercising wisdom about their health?
