Series 2: Church Practices and Traditions — Discussion 17
Bible Scripture (KJV)
Matthew 6:7–8 (KJV): “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”
Let us discuss:
Does this passage mean Christians should never repeat a prayer? What is the difference between sincere, persistent prayer and repeating words as though the repetition itself forces God to answer? How should we understand Jesus repeating His prayer in Gethsemane in Matthew 26:44?
Let us study these passages in context and allow Scripture to guide our understanding of prayer.
