Welcome to SVI Community Bible Discussions!

Many Christians ask whether a person who has genuinely believed in Jesus Christ can later lose their salvation. Some emphasize God’s power to keep believers, while others emphasize the biblical warnings about turning away from faith.

How should we understand these passages together? Let us examine the Scriptures and learn from one another.

      John 5:24 (KJV)

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

      Colossians 1:23 (KJV)

“If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;”

Let us discuss: What assurance does Jesus give to the person who believes His Word? What does the instruction to continue in the faith in Colossians 1:23 teach us? How do you understand the relationship between God’s keeping power and the Bible’s calls to persevere in faith?

Share your thoughts and support your answers with Scripture. Let us discuss respectfully, examine the context, and grow together in the knowledge of God’s Word.
